About Jared Rowe
Jared is the CEO of AutoWeb, the company that practically invented Internet sales for the automotive industry. He was first introduced to the car sales community through his Great Uncle who owned a dealership in Wisconsin.Â
Intrigued with the automotive industry, Jared obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration, Automotive Marketing from Northwood University. He then went on to earn his Master of Business Administration from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Tips For Success #1: Understanding Responsibilities
If being a CEO was easy, then everyone would be doing it. What most people fail to realize, though, is the amount of responsibility associated with being a CEO. Being at the top of a multi-million dollar company, you have a lot of command over people’s jobs. Moreover, you have a lot of influence over their lives. People feed their families with this job, and they rely on the CEO to do so.
This is why you have to take your responsibilities seriously. Preparing and understanding this is the first step to becoming a CEO. According to Jared, mastering this is what helps you to become the CEO of a multi-million dollar company.
Tips For Success #2: Qualities Needed
To be considered for a CEO position you need two qualities. First, you have to be a good person. Then, you have to be useful to others. Jared Rowe outlines taking care of your team, customers, and community. These are the values that will lead you down that path.Â
Simply put, If you are a good person, good things will happen to you. People will mentor you. They will want to help you move up. However, this does not happen simply because you are a good person. You must also be useful.Â
Ask yourself, âhow can I be of use to the people around me?â If you’re the best at it, then you can be useful. Once you start adding this value to everyone around you, then you will find yourself moving up. More importantly, you will be viewed as ready for a promotion.
Tips For Success #3: Team Building
Building high-performing teams is essential to growth and moving up. You are only as good as those around you. If you’re not on a good team, then build one. While building the right team is not an easy task, it starts with the environment. The right environment will help attract the people you need.
Essentially, you must surround yourself with people who can not only teach you, but also the team. You need a team to help inspire you and everyone around you. This will not only help you do and become better, but also help the team do and become better.
Tips For Success #4: Interdependence
The business world is a team sport. Sean V. Bradley, CSP, is a certified Franklin Covey trainer and facilitator. You need to reach the level of interdependence, which is Coveyâs 3rd level of maturity. This is where it is about we and us. As humans, we can not do everything ourselves. You must be constantly asking yourself âhow can we collectively get this done?â

Goal Setting Techniques
Goal setting is essential in order to maximize your effectiveness. Jared uses goal-setting techniques to keep him and his team on task. He created an itemized list of things to accomplish. From there, the team can compare and contrast new opportunities to the current list. Then they move things up or down based on what they feel is the most important.
Mastering Focus
In order to hit your goals, you have to be a master of focus. The proper level of focus will add rigor to assignments, as well as make them more real. Instead of spreading the focus thin, Jared takes a different approach. His team takes on three tasks for the day. Â
Their goal is to complete the three tasks to the best of their ability. In the end, this method gets more accomplished. Sure, you could take on 5 tasks and get them done, but you will be less effective. While you may accomplish more tasks, you did them less effectively. As a result, there will be less progress.

Being the CEO of AutoWeb, Jared has seen a lot of car buying trends. There are typically three types of digital buyers: the researcher, the deliverer, and the hybrid. While each of the three have their own concerns and methods of purchasing a vehicle, one thing remains the same: they utilize the Internet before the dealership.

Ecommerce and digital retailing has taught us many things. Most importantly, it has taught us that consumers demand a choice in how they deal with retailers. Being able to interact with retailers the way they want is important to them. Simply put, they want to be able to manage the process.
